The CALIENT 3D MEMS OEM strategy builds on the FiberConnect 320X with a goal of bringing the benefits of photonic switching to new markets by providing dramatically smaller subsystem solutions enabling the company to engage new partnerships with other networking companies.

While 3D Optical MEMS is already the lowest power consuming switching technology on the market, the smaller form factor will allow a further reduction in the power consumption to about 10 percent of the power of today’s systems. The resulting new products target data center, cloud computing and content provider applications, in addition to service provider point-of-presence, fiber-to-the-home and central office networks.

The next generation products will be available both as photonic switching system solutions for OEM applications, and subsystems that can be integrated into partner Router, Switching, Next Generation ROADM, Optical Transport and Cloud Computing platforms.
