Press ReleasesPlease contact: CALIENT Technologies Executives to Speak at Opticon 2001 San Jose, Calif., August 8, 2001 – CALIENT Technologies, a leading developer of all-photonic switching systems, has been invited to address the latest trends in optical switching and advancements in Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) at Opticon in San Jose, California from August 13-16, 2001. CALIENTs chief technology officer, John Bowers, will join a panel to discuss the varying technologies behind optical switches and their applications. The session, "Shedding Light on Optical Switches," is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15th from 8am to 9:15am. John Drake, CALIENTs chief network architect, International Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards co-author and lead on CALIENTs GMPLS implementation efforts, will join a panel Thursday, August 16th from 11am to 12:15pm addressing GMPLS development in the session, "Signaling in Optical Networks." When implemented, GMPLS will give carriers much greater freedom to select best-of-breed photonic equipment and network software from heterogeneous manufacturers. GMPLS is widely recognized for its significant benefits in the rapid provisioning of wavelength services, in dynamic restoration and flexible network protection. The IETF working committee meets this month to further develop a much richer set of restoration schemes, as well as collaboration on all-photonic routing. In a range of open photonic networking trials, CALIENT has already begun to implement early features of its newly-announced GMPLS protocol stack on the DiamondWave photonic switching system, in anticipation of release to service providers during 2H 01. In addition, CALIENT will be hosting an after hours event for all Opticon attendees on Monday, August 13th from 7pm to 9pm on the patio adjacent to the Ballroom at the McEnery Convention Center.
