Calient Networks Announces Thomas Walsh as Sales Vice President

San Jose, Calif. August 23, 2004 – Calient Networks, a leading provider of carrier-class photonic switching systems, has appointed Thomas Walsh as Calient's vice president of sales. Tom brings to Calient extensive sales and executive management background in telecommunications, having led worldwide sales from plan to reality in both start-up and public companies, including Salira Optical Network Systems, Lucent Technologies and AT&T.

"Tom has joined Calient Networks' executive team to build and expand Calient's sales channels, and to fully develop and capture our opportunities across all of the exciting applications that photonic switching supports," emphasized Calient CEO and President Charles Corbalis. "He complements our team strengths in photonic systems development and delivery, as well as our success in joint applications design with carriers."

Prior to Calient, Mr. Walsh was vice president of sales, marketing and customer service with Salira Optical Network Systems, vice president of RBOC sales at Lucent Technologies, and director of US sales in the Business Markets Division of AT&T Corp. At Salira he was responsible for the initial launch and rollout of its ground-breaking Ethernet PON systems, including lab trials and market deployments in US, Chinese and Asian service provider networks. In addition to securing Salira's first customer revenues, he was responsible for marketing, strategic partnerships and customer care. Tom also led the sales of Lucent's Data Networking Systems into Ameritech, Bellsouth, GTE, SBC, US WEST/Qwest, Verizon, and service providers in Caribbean and Latin America markets
