Press ReleasesSorrento Networks and CALIENT Technologies Partner to Deliver
San Diego, Calif., June 14, 2004 – Sorrento Networks (Nasdaq:FIBR), a leading supplier of intelligent optical networking solutions for metro and regional applications, and CALIENT Technologies, a leading provider of optical carrier-class switching systems and software, announced a solutions partnership today to blend their expertise, products and market momentum. Sorrento has integrated CALIENT's DiamondWave™ PX photonic switch and GMPLS control plane into Sorrento's GigaMux GM 6400 DWDM transport system. For carriers, the "Powered by CALIENT™" switching solution enables Sorrento to offer today an optical switching and transport solution for on demand, any-to-any wavelength connectivity, automated end-to-end circuit provisioning across a multi-vendor network, and a smooth migration path for existing static networks. For multi-service cable operators, Sorrento will also be able to support video on demand, video distribution and multicasting, and other cable applications requiring reconfigurable bandwidth. "Today's service providers have a vested interest in optimizing and expanding their networks," stated Mitch Truelock, vice president of corporate development for Sorrento Networks. " Sorrento's enhanced optical transport solution will help carriers augment existing DWDM networks and build new converged networks." "CALIENT has always been a leader in developing GMPLS control plane standards and solutions," Mitch continued. "Partnering with CALIENT ensures easy integration and ensured interoperability with other GMPLS-enabled devices being deployed today." " Sorrento is a great partner for CALIENT in these cable-centric opportunities," noted CALIENT chief marketing officer Ron Mackey. "More than ever, carriers and MSOs are investing to make their infrastructures world-class, future-proofed, multi-service and very intelligent. CALIENT and Sorrento are well-equipped to create complementary value on all of these fronts." The companies have completed interoperability and solutions integration testing through Sorrento's FIBRLab and will jointly demonstrate their integrated solutions at this week's Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers' Conference in Orlando, Fla., (booth 355) as well as at next week's Supercomm Exposition in Chicago, Ill. (booth 22316). About Sorrento Networks About CALIENT Technologies, Inc.
