The 320-port S320 creates flexible, 32 terabit/s network fabric;
new switch is smaller and lower power
AMSTERDAM, Sept. 17, 2012 — ECOC Stand #246 — CALIENT Technologies, Inc., the global leader in photonic switching technology, today announced the European availability of the S320 high-density photonic switch.
The S320 is used to create a network fabric with total throughput of 32 terabits per second. The switch allows any-to-any network connections with almost no latency and can be reconfigured on demand through network management. Each switch port is transparent to bit rate supporting data speeds to 100 Gbps and beyond. The S320 is used for data center, government and telecommunications service provider networks, and is a powerful component for next-generation Software Defined Networks (SDN).
The heart of the S320 is the MEMS Switch Module 320 (MSM320), which switches up to 320 fiber optic signals from any input port to any output port. The module delivers switching speed of less than 25 milliseconds and offers redundant control processors.
“The S320 is designed to help European companies build high speed networks that scale to support rapid growth in demand, but also can be changed dynamically to respond to customer needs or real time network demands,” said Bill Stephenson, Vice President of Global Service Provider Accounts at CALIENT. “The entire industry is present at ECOC, which makes it a great place for us to launch this in Europe.”
The S320 chassis fits in a 19” rack. Maximum power consumption is 45 watts, and the switch is available with LC or MTP fiber connectors supporting 640 single mode fiber terminations.
The S320 is available now. Please visit www.calient.net for more information or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
